\u00a0Le Prix \u00ab Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh \u00bb a ete cree pour garder vivante la memoire de notre collegue et
poursuivre son engagement en faveur des mathematiques en Afrique. Il est attribue tous les ans a un
jeune mathematicien ou une jeune mathematicienne d’Afrique subsaharienne par un comite scientifique
mis en place par le CIMPA. Le prix finance un sejour scientifique de quelques mois.
a) Pour le financement du prix 2013, les dons genereux recus lors de la souscription a la fin 2011,
et le soutien du CIMPA\u00a0 pour le transport ne couvrent pas entierement le budget.La SMF a accepte de
reouvrir la souscription. Nous la remercions tres chaleureusement. Merci beaucoup de nous faire

candidatures doivent etre envoyees avant le 15 decembre 2013. N’hesitez pas a diffuser
l’information.
c) Nous avons ete invites a presenter le prix Ibni le 23 fevrier lors d’une reunion a la memoire
d’Ibni organisee par le Parti pour\u00a0 les Libertes et le Developpement qu’il dirigeait. Le texte de

cette occasion une contribution financiere hautement symbolique au prix Ibni. Depuis, nous avons ete
tres touches de recevoir l’information suivante, venue du Tchad. “Le 20 juillet dernier,\u00a0 un forum a
ete organise \u00e0 N’Djamena sur le “prix Ibni” \u00e0 l’attention des jeunes chercheurs tchadiens. Nous
avons mis a la disposition du public constitue de\u00a0 plus de 160 personnes les informations sur
l’initiative des chercheurs des institutions fran\u00e7aises et internationales\u00a0 qui ont souhaite rendre
perenne la memoire de notre cher ami et camarade Ibni et avons aussi rapppele que le prix a un
caract\u00e8re totalement apolitique. Nous etions motives par le fait qu’un seul tchadien a postule\u00a0 a ce
prix depuis sa mise en place.”\u00a0 L’engagement et le courage de nos amis tchadiens sont
impressionnants.
\u00a0d) Le prix a ete attribue en 2009 a Oumarou Abdou Arbi, du Niger, pour un sejour scientifique a
l’INRIA de Rennes,\u00a0 en 2010 a Amadou Tall du Senegal pour un sejour scientifique a l’universite de
Strasbourg, en 2011 a Solym Mawaki Manou Abi du Togo pour un sejour scientifique a\u00a0 l’Universite de
Toulouse et en 2012 a El Hadji Deme, du Senegal\u00a0 pour un sejour scientifique a l’INRIA de Grenoble.
Nous restons en contact avec les laureats qui poursuivent avec succes leur carriere scientifique.

The Prize ” Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh” was created to keep alive the memory of our colleague and to
continue his commitment to Mathematics in Africa. It is awarded every year to a young mathematician
from Central Africa or West Africa by a scientific committee set up by ICPAM. The prize\u00a0 funds a
scientific visit of several months in a research institute.<\/p>\n
last campaign in 2011,\u00a0 as well as the support of ICPAM for the travel, will not completely cover
the budget for the 2013 Prize. The French Mathematical Society, which we warmly thank, has agreed to
host a site devoted to the prize.\u00a0 Thank you for your donation which can be made on

The deadline is December 15, 2013. We kindly ask you to forward this information to potential
candidates.
c) We were invited this year to present the Ibni Prize at a meeting of the Party for the Liberties
and the Development (the party of which Ibni was the leader). The text of our presentation can be

occasion, we\u00a0 accepted\u00a0 a highly symbolic donation to the Ibni Prize. Since then, we were very
touched to receive from Chad the following information: “On the 20th of July, a forum on the Ibni
Prize was organized in N’Djamena, directed\u00a0 towards\u00a0\u00a0 young Chadian researchers. We presented to an
audience of more than 160 persons\u00a0 information on the initiative of the French and International
scientists who wanted to perpetuate the memory of our dear friend and comrade Ibni. We\u00a0 also
recalled that the prize is totally apolitical. We were motivated by the fact that there has been
only one Chadian applicant since the creation of the Prize.” The involvement and the courage of our
Chadian friends are impressive.
d) The Prize was awarded in 2009 to Oumarou Abdou Arbi, from Niger, for a scientific visit at INRIA
in Rennes,\u00a0 in 2010 to Amadou Tall, from Senegal, for a scientific visit at the University of
