Amnesty attire aussi plus largement l\u2019attention sur les \u00ab disparitions \u00bb

qui constituent une pratique recurrente au Tchad.

2) Prix Ibni Les trois societes de mathematiques fran\u00e7aises, SFdS, SMAI et SMF\u00a0 ont cree en 2009 un
prix Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh, a sa memoire. Il est attribue tous les ans a un jeune mathematicien
ou une jeune mathematicienne d\u2019Afrique Centrale ou d\u2019Afrique de l\u2019Ouest et finance un sejour\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
scientifique de quelques mois.\u00a0 Le laureat 2010, annonce le 17 janvier dernier, est le Senegalais
Amadou Tall, doctorant en cryptographie ; il effectuera un sejour \u00e0 Strasbourg. Le laureat 2009
\u00e9tait le Nigerien Oumarou Abdou Arbi, actuellement doctorant en bioinformatique a Rennes.

Le prix est finance par des dons, son financement n’est pas \u00e0 l’heure actuelle assure en 2011.\u00a0 Vous

5) Vous faites partie des 3419 signataires de la petition\u00a0 sur \u00ab Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh \u00bb
http:\/\/smf.emath.fr\/PetitionSaleh\/<\/a> C’est aujourd’hui un triste anniversaire, puisque son enlevement
a eu lieu de 3 fevrier 2008, par des soldats de l\u2019arm\u00e9e tchadienne. Il etait professeur de
mathematiques \u00e0 l\u2019universite de N\u2019Djamena, et une personnalite de l\u2019opposition politique dans son
pays. Il avait aussi cree plusieurs liens avec des universites ou ecoles fran\u00e7aises, au service de
l\u2019enseignement des mathematiques dans son pays.

Il est tres probablement mort en detention peu de temps apres l\u2019enlevement, ainsi que le reconnait
la Commission d\u2019Enquete (internationale) sur les evenements survenus au Tchad du 28 janvier au 8

Nous n\u2019oublions pas Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh et nous continuons a demander la verite a son sujet au

jour anniversaire la douleur de la famille d’Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh et leur exigence de verite.

The French mathematical societies have signed an open letter

that Amnesty International France has addressed to Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh. Other signatories are
his sons, various sections of Amnesty International, members of the French Parliament,
mathematicians and statisticians, including ourselves.

You can sign the online petition\u00a0 http:\/\/www.amnesty.fr\/aif_petitions\/?petition=228<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0 addressed to
the ambassador of Chad to France. Feel free to relay this petition to your colleagues from all
countries. Only a constant mobilization can lead to truth.

Amnesty draws attention to enforced disappearance

which are a recurrent practice in Chad.

2) Prize Ibni\u00a0 The three French mathematical societies, SFdS, SMAI and SMF have created in 2009 the
Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh Prize in his memory. It is awarded annually to a young mathematician of
Central or West Africa and funds a scientific visit of several months.\u00a0\u00a0 The 2010 winner, announced
on January 17, is the Senegalese Amadou Tall. He is a PhD student in cryptography and will go to
Strasbourg, France.\u00a0 The 2009 winner was Oumarou Abdou Arbi from Niger. He is now a PhD student in
bioinformatics at Rennes.

The prize is funded by donations. The funding is not currently sufficient for the 2011 Prize. You

3) On Wednesday, February 2, Members of the French Parliament gave a press conference.

5) You are one of the 3419 signatories of the petition on “Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh”
http:\/\/smf.emath.fr\/en\/PetitionSaleh\/<\/a> Today is a sad anniversary. His enforced disappearance took
place from February 3, 2008. It has been done by soldiers from the Chadian army. He was professor of
mathematics at the University of N’Djamena, and a well-known democratic opponent in his country. He
also fostered scientific cooperation with French universities and schools in order to improve the
level of teaching in his country.

He very probably died in detention shortly after his abduction. This has been recognized the Board
of Inquiry on in Chad January 28 to February 8, 2008.\u00a0 (See our post of September 3, 2008,

We will not forget Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh. We demand the truth to the Chadian President Idriss
