Harmonic analysis on G-manifolds

Résumé :
In this talk, we consider singular situations that arise in harmonic analysis due to the presence of non-transitive group actions, and develop a corresponding representation and spectral theory. The study of group actions has a history of more than 150 years, and goes back to classical invariant theory, which developed out of mechanics, geometry, and number theory. But while representation theoretic and spectral issues on the one side, and the study of group actions on the other side are well established, the representation and spectral theory of a manifold, or algebraic variety, that carries a non-transitive group action, are largely unknown.
