Résumé :
The Nobel Prize 2012 in physics has been awarded to Serge Haroche and David Wineland "for ground-breaking experimental methods that enable measuring and manipulation of individual quantum systems". The research group of S. Haroche at Laboratoire Kastler Brossel in Paris has a long standing expertise in a field of cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED), being able to capture, monitor and control various fields of one or few photons stored in a very high-quality resonator. Single atoms are routinely used to perform repetitive quantum nondemolition (QND) measurement of the photon number. Most recent advances, which will be presented in the seminar talk, are the passive QND observation of the field’s evolution (such as quantum jumps, Schrödinger’s cat decoherence, quantum Zeno effect, etc.) and the active quantum feedback control allowing for the stabilization of non-classical field states. Our results demonstrate the fundamental properties of the quantum mechanics and propose some means to weaken the effect of decoherence which is responsible for the absence of the quantum features in our macroscopic world.
