Boundary Effective Theory : a new approach to Finite Temperature Field Theory

Résumé :
Boundary Effective Theory (BET) is a non-perturbative approach to finite temperature field theory that relies on a semiclassical expansion. In contrast with the standard methods, in BET the static field configurations are the fundamental degrees of freedom. To introduce and illustrate the method, we start presenting the results already achieved using this framework: the computation of the pressure and the 1-loop effective potential for a massless $\lambda\phi^ 4$ theory. In the sequel, in order to address the study of phase transitions, we discuss the ongoing extension of the method to double-well potentials and the subtleties related to the existence of multiple classical solutions.
