Emergent gravity and emergent gauge fields in graphene and in Dirac semimetals

Résumé :
The condensed matter systems with emergent relativistic invariance may serve as an arena for the experimental observation of various effects typical for the high - energy physics. I will discuss the 2+1 D graphene and the recently discovered 3+1 D Dirac semimetals, where relativistic fermions appear in the vicinity of the Fermi points. In the presence of elastic deformations the quasi – particles propagate in curved space, whose metric is defined by expansion of the effective Hamiltonian near the Fermi point. It appears, in particular, that the dislocation carries singular torsion in addition to the quantized flux of emergent magnetic field. Therefore, it may serve as a tool for the observation of emergent geometry both in graphene and in Dirac semimetals. In 3+1 D Dirac semimetals the quantum anomalies in the quasiparticle currents appear. In the presence of external electric field the quasiparticles/holes are pumped from vacuum along the dislocation. The appeared chiral imbalance along the dislocation drives the analogue of chiral magnetic effect, that is the appearance of electric current along the dislocation.
