Le Studium Thursday : Exchange of ideas between condensed matter physics and quantum field theory
M. A. Zubkov (Le Studium/LMPT)
Thursday 03 November 2016 16:00 -  Tours -  Amphithéâtre 030 (Bât E1)

Résumé :
The emergent relativistic effects in condensed matter systems will be considered. Those effects include the appearance of emergent gravitational and emergent gauge fields. It will be explained how those fields typical for the relativistic quantum field theory manifest themselves in Dirac and Weyl semimetals, and in graphene. On the other hand, methods and approaches of condensed matter theory may be applied to high energy physics. We will discuss how this works in the construction of the conceptually new models of composite Higgs bosons, which attempt to describe the internal structure of the recently discovered 125 GeV Higgs particle.
