Résumé :
To relate string theory to observable physics, one typically works in a compactification setting: the 10-dimensional (10d) space-time is split into the 4d space-time we observe, times a 6d compact space. Motivated by the connection to cosmology, I will first present the search for solutions where the 4d space-time is de Sitter. Such classical de Sitter string backgrounds are rare, and I will present progress in characterising (or excluding) them. In a second part, I will consider a 4d Minkowski space-time and study the propagation of gravitational waves in that context. I will show how the extra compact dimensions can affect and leave a signature in the 4d waves to be detected.
