The chiral magnetic effect in planar condensed matter systems

Résumé :
The emergence of Dirac and Weyl materials, in which the charge carriers behave similarly to relativistic fermions, has opened the venue for a new connection between particle physics and condensed matter physics. In this context, phenomena that are hard or impossible to be observed in high energy physics due to the complexity and/or high cost of these experiments were recently observed in certain materials. In this talk I illustrate this interdisciplinary bridge proposing an analogy for the chiral magnetic effect - an anomalous current predicted to be generated in peripheral heavy ion collisions - in planar Dirac systems.
