(GREMAN - IDP) Toroflux, vortices and other properties of non-centrosymmetric superconductors

Résumé :

Superconducting materials whose crystal lattices lack the inversion symmetry are known to exhibit a variety of unusual features, including the
the magneto-electric effect, spin-polarized currents, helical states, and unusual Josephson effects. I will demonstrate that such non-centrosymmetric superconductors host a new family of spatially localized, self-knotted configurations of the magnetic field. These solutions, which we term “toroflux”, are the superconducting counterparts of the Chandrasekhar-Kendall states that appear in highly conducting, force-free astrophysical and nuclear-fusion plasmas. I will also demonstrate that vortices in non-centrosymmetric superconductors can exhibit an inversion of the magnetic field at a certain distance from the vortex core. This implies, in stark contrast to conventional superconducting vortices, that the intervortex forces can be non-monotonic intervortex forces, thus leading to the formation of vortex bound states, clusters, etc.
