Résumé :
Jang’s equation is an equation for the mean curvature of a graph over an initial data set for General Relativity. Its solutions are strongly connected to marginally trapped surfaces in the initial data. In this talk I will describe the background, as well as applications of Jang’s equation to the positive mass theorem and to questions on topological censorship.
