Jour anniversaire, nouvelles du prix / Anniversary, news from the prize

1. Il y aura deux ans le 3 février que Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh a été enlevé à son domicile à
N’Djamena par des forces armées. Il est presque certainement mort dans les jours suivants. Nous ne
pouvons oublier, nous voulons connaître les circonstances de sa mort, et que justice soit faite.
2. Le prix 2009 à sa mémoire a été décerné à Oumarou Abdou Arbi. On peut trouver sur le site
http://smf.emath.fr/SouscriptionSaleh toute information concernant le concours et le jury. Nous
remercions vivement toutes les personnes qui ont répondu à la souscription. Celle-ci a permis de
financer le prix 2009. Il est toujours possible de faire des dons pour les prix 2010 et 2011.
3. L’Union Mathématique Africaine nous a assuré de son soutien au prix Ibni. De nombreuses sociétés
mathématiques ont relayé la souscription et l’appel à candidatures du prix. Nous les remercions
vivement. Nous remercions particulièrement l’IMU pour le don qu’a fait le “Developing Countries
Strategy Group” pour le prix Ibni.
4. Le 3 février, jour anniversaire, une plaque sera apposée à la mémoire d’Ibni dans le bâtiment de
mathématiques d’Orléans dans lequel il était étudiant dans les années soixante-dix, en présence de
sa famille, des présidents des sociétés mathématiques françaises, de la vice-présidente de
l’université. Celles et ceux qui souhaitent se joindre à cette cérémonie peuvent contacter Yves
Denizeau .
5. Nous partagerons en ce jour anniversaire la douleur de la famille d’Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh et
leur exigence de vérité.

1. It will be two years on February 3 since Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh has been kidnapped from his
home in N’Djamena by armed forces. He died almost certainly soon after. We cannot forget this, we
want to know the circumstances of his death, we want that justice be dispensed.
2. The 2009 Ibni prize , dedicated to his memory, has been awarded to Oumarou Abdou Arbi. Please

We deeply thank those who answered the subscription. It allowed to fund the 2009 prize. It is still
possible to donate for the 2010 and 2011 prizes.
3. The African Union of Mathematicians supports the Ibni prize. Numerous mathematical societies have
disseminated information on the subscription and the call for applications. We thank them very much.
We particularly thank IMU for the donation of the “Developing Countries Strategy Group”.
4. On February 3, anniversary of the day he was kidnapped, a plaque will be affixed in the Math
building of the University of Orléans in memory of Ibni who has been a student there. His family
will be present, as well as the presidents of the French Mathematical Societies and the
vice-chancellor of the university.
5. On this anniversary, we share the grief of Ibni’s family and ask for justice.
