Depuis le 3 aout six mois se sont écoulés depuis la disparition de notre collège et ami Ibni Oumar
Mahamat Saleh.
1) Son décès semble très probable. La presse africaine indépendante donne même des précisions
sinistres, qu’il nous est bien sur impossible de vérifier, voir

2) Pendant ce temps, aucun élément nouveau n’a ete communique officiellement, malgre la remise, le
mardi 5 aout, au président Deby du rapport de la commission d’enquete sur les événements survenus au
cours de l’attaque des rebelles tchadiens contre N’Djamena. La commission, qui avait également été
chargée de faire la lumière sur le cas d’Ibni Oumar Saleh, porte-parole de la principale coalition
de l’opposition, disparu le 3 février, n’apporte en effet aucune précision sur son sort !
3) Nous avons ecrit a plusieurs journaux francais pour les alerter. N’hesitez pas à le faire aussi
si vous connaissez des journalistes!
4) Le mathematicien Michel Broue a dans ces conditions publié “Mathématiciens morts sous la torture
et mensonges d’État” sur le site de Mediapart, <http://www.mediapart.fr/forward/emailref/20171 Il
fait le parallele entre le cas de Maurice Audin et celui d’Ibni. Cet article etait a la une de
Mediapart le dimanche 10 aout.
5) Merci aux editeurs de la Newsletter de l’European Ma thematical Societty de juillet pour avoir
publie un article sur Ibni. Merci aussi a l’association Maurice Audin qui a mis l’appel a signer
la petition pour Ibni sur sa page d’accueil http://audin.lautre.net/
6) Notre petition avait recueilli ce matin 2998 signatures. Pour les nouveaux signataires: un
resume des actions et reactions precedentes peut etre consulte sur

Good evening
On August 3 six months have passed since the disappearance of our college and friend Ibni Oumar
Mahamat Saleh.
1) He is almost certainly dead. The independent African press gives details that we are unable
to verify, see http://ndjamena-matin.over-blog.com/article-21335862.html.
2) Meanwhile, nothing new has been communicated officially, despite the fact that, on August 5,
the report of the commission of inquiry was given to President Deby. Recall that this commission has
been asked to shed light on the events that occurred during the attack of Chadian rebels in
N’Djamena in February, and in particular on the case of Saleh Ibni Oumar, spokesman of the main
coalition of opposition, who disappeared on February 3. Nevertheless, the report does not contain
any information on his fate!
3) We wrote to several French newspapers to alert them on the fate of Ibni. Do not hesitate to do so
if you know any journalists!
4) Under these conditions, the mathematician Michel Broue has published a paper called
“Mathematicians died under torture and lies of state” on the site Mediapart,
<http://www.mediapart.fr/forward/emailref/20171 He makes a parallel between the case of Ibni and
the one of Maurice Audin, tortured to death by soldiers of the French Army in Algeria during the
Algerian war, for whom the truth about what happened is not officially known, even now. The paper of
Michel Broue was on the first page of Mediapart on Sunday, August 10.
5) Thanks to the editors of the Newsletter of the European Mathematical Society of July for having
published an article on Ibni. Thanks also to the association Maurice Audin which put the call to
sign the petition for Ibni on its homepage http://audin.lautre.net/
